How We Got Started:
I started Cozies 4 Chemo when my 19 year old cousin was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2012. After her surgery she was faced with a 9 week course of aggressive chemotherapy. Being only 12, I didn’t know much about chemotherapy, but I knew I wanted to give her a gift that would provide some comfort to her during her treatments. I told my Mom I wanted to make her a fleece blanket.
I’ve made blankets for some of my friends when they have been sick, and I just hoped that in some way this would help her get through those long days of chemotherapy. I chose a happy pattern to remind her of brighter days ahead.
She used that blanket every day during her treatment, and many people commented on the perfect gift idea and the comfort that it brought to her during her treatment. It was just as I intended - warm and cozy. In fact, she liked it so much she asked me to help her make one for a friend she met during her treatment. That’s when I got the idea for Project Cozies 4 Chemo.
I told my Mom I wanted to make blankets for other people going through chemotherapy, and we started planning the 1st Cozies 4 Chemo event.
To create hand-tied fleece cozies to provide warmth and comfort to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
To offer guidance and support for individuals and community groups wishing to create blankets and provide comfort to others during a difficult time
